Congratulations on your start to life of Art and beauty! Cosmetology school will be exhausting, or at least it was for me. Whatever you do DON'T GIVE UP!

Enter Your Zip Code Below to Search For Schools Near You. Each year, many people who have a passion for hair, makeup and style enroll in cosmetology school. There are plenty reasons why you may choose career in beauty industry.
The world of hair has grown so much in the past decade. Research is a great way to lean new techniques and I would encourage you to do so. There are websites like that give a professional perspective.
You can also use YouTube as a reliable source but make sure you're watching professional videos and not 15 year old Jenna from Wisconsin putting her makeup on before school. Also, I am a licensed cosmetologist and soon to be educator. I'll answer every question you can throw at me. You're very welcome!
Trends are all around you! I has always been very observant of people around me, however, it wasn't until my second year of cosmetology school when I started realizing the hair around me. You'll see the good, the bad and the ugly of hair at your local shopping mall. I challenge you to go to your local mall and just people watch, you'll learn a lot about the trends in your town.
For trends in Hollywood turn to fashion shows and awards shows. For every day trends and inspiration I'm often inspired by Pinterest. I have even compiled a look book for clients who come to me wanting something different but don't know what it is that they want. Know this: as a guy, you will probably get away with murder!
Seriously though, I didn't know anything about hair before hair school and they walked me through everything. You will learn just the basics to pass your state board exam.
And man, if I had had YouTube when I was in hair school, I think I would have understood a little more! Just pay attention, try your best, keep a sense of humor, don't beat yourself up if things seem difficult (it gets easier, I swear!), and always be willing and ready to take clients. It will pay off! Good luck!. I started cosmetology school in January so I'm still a little bit of a newbie myself. I was terrified when I joined because I honestly knew just about nothing about hair. I knew a little about makeup and skincare but not too much.
But going in I realized that a lot of the girls and the guy in my class knew just about as much (or even less) then I did. Honestly there isn't really anything you NEED to know. Your going to school to learn, just let them teach you. And don't be afraid to ask people for help when your having trouble.
So long as you have a passion for what your doing and you have fun with it you'll do great.
